Great new heights!

This past weekend I went with big brother Brent back to The Charles Harris 10k where it all first started for us a year ago.  I was pretty amped for this race for a lot of reasons.  For one there was a lot of downhills which meant we could really go FAST and another was all of my great Dynamo Teammates racing as well.

Love seeing Dynamo Teammates rocking the KPeasey Gear.  Check out friend Michael Kidd

As we lined up on the start line Brent and I inched our way to the front so we could have some clear road.  This was a race we had run before so I wasn't as nervous but I still wanted to do well and being around so many fast people made it exciting as always.  If I could do cool picture art like Haley Chura then I would point myself out but you will have to find me below.
Can you see me right up front with all those elite runners?

Before the gun went off the photographer got a great shot of me and Brent rocking some All3sports gear and my brand new Newton Running Shoes

Need the warmth of spring to get here already...

Then it was off to the races.  Brent and I tore out of the gates and flew past the first mile marker.  My face was getting a little cold but man were we moving.  This is why we train and race and race and train.  I told Brent I wanted to race every month this year, and to me that will only help better prepare me for a 70.3 mile day later this spring...as we came up through the finish area our newest sherpa (mom) was waiting and snapping photos for us.  Of course she told us we didn't look good for the pictures but I guess that's what happens when you go for new heights.

Right before the finish.  Great day and a tough day.
After the race was over it was time to get onto the real fun.  Our foundation was getting ready to sponsor our first two athletes.  Jake and Austin (plenty more on them to come) will be joining us at the Cutie's 5k in Centennial Olympic Park.  The dollars so many of you shared with us at our bowling event last fall will help purchase the equipment needed for these young athletes to compete with us and guess what? I think I might just do the 5k and 13.1 that weekend!!!
We are hosting a happy hour at The Family Dog on March 2, 2012 from 6-9 pm, to recognize and promote our next event so please come out and join.  Even better the friendly folks at TFD are donating 10% of the drinks sales to our foundation!! So please come out and get your new KPeasey shirt for 2012, share a drink and hear all about our newest additions to the KPeasey team!!

Even more excited than before at what 2012 has to offer and cannot wait to get out and race again!

A big year...a big start

It has been quite a few weeks since we have kicked off our 2012 season in Helen, GA. It was a memorable day as we had a good buddy of mine push me in a 5K since Brent was getting ready for an 18K race.  I was going to do the 18k with Brent after, but a hail storm made me think I had better stay warm for a long race season.
You can't see me shaking but man was it cold in the hail and rain!
My good buddy, Jason Horrell, pushed me in the jogger in the downpour and hail to the point that I could not even see. But guess what? We kept on going! It was amazing to get back out there and I do not regret feeling like a wet duck after the race. All I remember was I kept telling Jason to, "Go, go, go" and we did it in under 35 minutes! Incredible! It's always fun to be able to share Walking With KPeasey with those important to me and glad my buddy Jason was not the only one soaking wet after.  Brent was up next for the 18k and of course not a drop of rain on him...guess some people have it easy :)
As we continue to grow we want to do as many races as possible.  Honestly, if I could, I would race every weekend.  It is great getting out there and pushing what I previously had considered my "limits."  This past weekend Brent asked if I wanted to do a 10k as a nice warm up since we hadn't raced together yet this year.  So we laced up my new Newton Mv2's and hit the pavement.  Brent wanted to do the first mile a little quicker to get some space and boy did we fly those first few miles.  We ended up with a PR for KPeasey and had a great time getting our "race legs" under us.
Think these things are easy? Look at my face as we sprint to the finish
We are extremely please to welcome Newton Running to our family this season. And while we might not beat everyone, we will look good doing it with some natural running from Sir Issac!

Just as exciting,  Advanced Elements joined as a sponsor to provide our boating needs as well as future equipment for our growing foundation.
Thanks for the care package!!
We are very excited to have Newton and Advanced Elements on board and are looking forward to a big long year of racing. Speaking of long racing, we have also signed up for our first Half Ironman 70.3 Race in New Orleans this April 22, 2012!!! Heyooooooo!!!

Thanks for all the support as always. Stay tuned for our next post with some exciting news about the foundation!

Looking Back

When this whole walkingwithkpeasy got started, the idea was for Evan, Brent and myself to hang out and do something as brothers.  It wasn't that we didn't do things together but our lives were changing and why stop doing things with the people you love most?!?  We started with an idea to do some racing.
Remember the first one? Didn't even have it all yet.  Still had the golf club cover on!!

It's hard to believe but this would be the first time I shared the "field of play" with my brothers.  No more watching with mom and dad while they played.  Together as brothers we would be athletes.   But the best part was how much of a challenge this was for me.  How much I enjoyed doing all this racing.  I even solicited other friends to take me to more races when my brothers could not join.  So in looking back on what this year has meant to me, both on athletic and career and personnel levels, I think of all the races we have done.
3 5k's, 4 mile run, 1 10k, 2 half marathon's, 42.5k Bike Ride, 1 50k (31 miles) and of course two Olympic Distance Triathlons.  Even got first place in one of the tri's this year!
The first one together was pretty awesome!

Being an athlete is something I never thought possible but sharing that with my brother's made the year all the better.  Cannot wait to see what 2012 will hold but I already have my eyes on a half ironman and plenty more races.  So stay tuned, share our story and please keep sending the support!!
Last race of 2011 was quite chilly...

A special thank goes out to Tri Kids and David Dashiell who really got the ball rolling for us and without who we might still be at Taco Mac...
And to our other sponsors: All3Sports, Dynamo Multisport, Freedom Concepts, BlueSeventy, Gu, Witzlib Fitness Studio, Albopads, we cannot thank you enough for everything you did to make 2011 so special.

For your viewing pleasure we have a highlight reel of 2011 from our Iron Sherpa John David Johnson

The gifts we share

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for all things KPeasey but even more so a great year. Since I last posted my brother has gotten married, we have launched our non profit foundation and competed in our first ultra distance run.

The launch of the Kyle Pease Foundation was especially important to me as I have always felt this movement should be about more than just me.  I want to share the gifts we all have and hope to race alongside some KPeasey recipients in our next races.
At first I was nervous about the event but it was a huge success and far exceeded my expectations.  We raised over $8,000 and had a great time bowling with all our friends and supporters.  We plan to add races to our website soon but immediate plans call for me to compete in the Publix Half Marathon next March alongside a sponsored athlete.  We all truly do have a gift and I look forward to sharing so many of those.
KPF board members after a great night!

After the bowling excitement, it was time for one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving.  Food, family, friends and of course the Pease family bonfire!!
Look at Brother Evan...the consumate conversationalist!

Thanksgiving is most important to me as it reminds me of how fortunate and blessed I am to be around so many loving friends and family.  Thank you to you all for making a difference.

Then of course came the final event of 2011.  It was just a blip on our calendar.  A chance to find out what a long effort was like and maybe how my body would hold up for those longer triathlons...

So off we went to Tallahassee, FL for the Tallahassee Ultra Distance Classic.  The race was a 50k or 31 miles and even though I was excited to race again I just wasn't sure what to expect.  When we arrived in the early hours of the morning it sure was cold!!

I think I might have been sleeping

As we set off I realized something.  These ultra runners sure are different.  They almost spoke a foreign language.  I asked Brent what the heck they were talking about and between his ramblings I realized he didn't really know either.  But we settled in and actually were doing quite well.
Coming in on the second lap!! (three more to go)
I enjoyed talking to Brent about race schedules, longer runs and of course Ironman.  I'll be honest a long run hurts, it was tough being in that chair for so long but I really want to push that Ironman.  I want to see 140.6 one day but I have to learn the ways my body reacts and this 50k was a great first look.
By the 4th lap Brent and I were both pretty tired.  Our conversation had slowed and all I wanted was Tab...yes they serve TAB at ultra marathons.  The volunteers laughed as I guzzled it down but man was it sweet.
Then we hit lap 5 and I needed to get out of the chair!! Pheww it was a long day.  My hamstrings were screaming and my shoulders were on fire...but I wanted to finish the race.  I wanted to prove that limits would continue to be pushed.
Crossing the line in just over 5 1/2 hours!!
We came across in just over 5.5 hours and man was it a good feeling.  We had a great sherpa crew along for the ride and the support was tremendous.  Amy Moore, Shannon Kivipelto and Carlton & Holly Kitchens were all there in support.  THANK YOU ALL!!

Big thanks to Newton Running for letting us test those new shoes out, ALL3Sports, Dynamo Multisport for the continued support and of course Albopads for keeping me comfortable in the racer.  Gu Energy was along for the ride and all the support is always much appreciated.  Thank you so much to all our sponsors and supporters for making a difference.
Looking back on these past few weeks and more importantly an entire year we are truly excited about what is to come!!

Best

Past Happenings...New Happenings...New Family

Hello Kpeasey nation,
I do apologize for being away for a couple of weeks. I had some minor outpatient surgery to replace my Bachelofen pump and spent some time recovering. This is a standard procedure every five to seven years. In essence, the pump allows my muscles to relax and help to get me through the day a little bit easier.  Going under the knife is never easy and the words and thoughts are much appreciated. I am slowly healing and getting stronger every day. I cannot wait to get back and start racing again. In my down time, I have been enjoying the outdoors. It has been beautiful in the ATL. I've really been thinking about how lucky I am to be in such a great place in my life.

It was really cool watching KONA as well the other week.  Seeing those athletes reminds me again why I love to get out and race and I look forward to many more races to come! Congrats to all our friends who competed at KONA and we look forward to hearing more about it.

This past weekend I did a 5k with John David Johnson and his family.  It was nice to just be outside and enjoy this weather.  It was just a relaxing event though because this weekend it is my brother Brent's wedding where he will be tying the knot with the beautiful Erica Silverman. Can’t wait to celebrate and welcome a phenomenal lady into our family.  She promised me at least one dance….so I just hope she can keep up with me!
Me and the future sis with Brent
Please do be sure to congratulate them and until the next time we appreciate all of you for supporting all that we do!

Best
